ITunes decided to add long number strings to my comment box, change the track numbers from "1 to 13" to just "1"

The following question was emailed to us,, we thought we would post it here for Jessica. Editor

I've been having a very bizarre problem with my Itunes that I couldn't find addressed on your site.  Last night, after I clicked on "get info" from one song, my ITunes decided to add long number strings to my comment box, change the track numbers from "1 to 13" to just "1", and add in composers and album artists.  Now random songs will change as well if I click on them to play or try and change their information.  I attached a picture of the information screen after it has been changed.

I tried updating to the newest version of ITunes (8.0.2), deleted all of the numbers, and scanned for viruses twice.   I found several forums online where people had the same issue but no one ever found a solution.  Some suggested SoundCheck might be an issue so I turned it off.  Still changing numbers.

If you can't think of a solution, that's ok.  But if I uninstall ITunes and reinstall it, will my playlists and edited information be intact?  I'm afraid all my album artwork and playlists will be deleted if I uninstall it.  I have a Windows XP operating system if that helps.

Thanks so much for your time!

Same thing happened to me

Any solutions to this please?

If the number of songs on

If the number of songs on your computer exceeds the capacity of the iPod, Apple's "AutoFill" feature within iTunes will select the number of songs, audiobooks, and podcasts that fit on the iPod as directed by the user or at random. You exam 70-431 can also configure your iPod to appear as a hard drive on the desktop -- with the exception of the iPod touch models (although third-party software is available) -- and manually drag files of any type to the iPod. Music files copied to the iPod in this way won't play on the iPod, without it training first copying them to a computer and importing them into iTunes, but this is useful for backing up or transporting any type of file. Please refer to "Using Your iPod as a Storage Drive" and "Putting iPod Into Disk Mode" from the Apple Support Site for more information. To transfer music or files between computers, you will need to use your iPod as a hard disk (please note 70-680 exam questions that the iPod touch models officially do not support disk mode, although third-party software is available). In disk mode, you can effectively drag any file to the iPod, disconnect the iPod, connect it to another computer, and drag the file from the iPod to the second computer.
